York

Went to York yesterday. Popped into the York Tap, somewhat less busy than it's opening night. Had a fantastic chilli beer. Then we went to a fantastic place called The House of Trembling Madness. This place is grand, the building dates from the days of Henry II, with the beams being made from ships from around that time. There is a great beer shop ground floor, whiskey shop downstairs, and a bar and restaurant upstairs. Taxidermy everywhere with the beams and all that goodness, had goose, duck, venison and ham, yum. Spent way too much in the beer shop, then back to the Tap. Huzzah!

Hmmm

One must admit. One is getting rather bored. Everything I would like to do tends to be physically or anatomically impossible. Thinking about going on a trip around our great Isle sampling the finest ales of each Region and shire. That is probably impossible also. Skyrim it is then!

Durham Food Fest

Went to the Durham food festival yesterday. T'was epic. Had a really really good lamb rougan josh and just went around all the booze vendors for samples. Got told off by the pie bloke for using the same spoons in each filling.... Many cakes of various varieties bit pricey. DURHAM BREWERY! Huzzah. Bought some bacon, ginger wine, beer, licourice root, the curry, a book some whisky and some rather nice chocolate with chilli and orange within. Saw the Cathedral, that was lovely. They had the choir and orchestra doing their thing.

Almost everyone has gone

Practically everyone is at uni now, some off tomorrow. Getting a tad bored. Just waiting for Skyrim and SWTOR, a bit sad I know. Been trying to do some physics notes... Slow going. Hip is getting sort of better, slowly.

Got some tickets to Bruges booked. £36 for an overnight ferry, RETURN! Going Christmas time as is nice an cold and likely to be snowing. Hate hot weather... One has a feeling that one of the chaps I am going with will piss his money away on the ship's casino before we get there! Alas they take both the Great British Pound and the heathen Euro, so it is easier for a certain inevitably drunken friend to lose money playing blackjack.

Work Experience

I've been trying to get some work experience at CERN, got an automated email directing me to the careers site. I'd have a placement for 8 weeks. Looked hopeful. Application deadline has been and gone ages ago... Wish I'd known a bit earlier. So going to shoot some emails to some Physics departments see if I get lucky. I did last year, got a week placement at Oxford Astrophysics dept!

Blog mk1

Hello chaps and chapettes. I'm Skippy, it is a nickname don't worry my parents aren't cruel. I am a cripple if you haven't yet gathered from the title of this blog. I have a genetic (turns to genital after a drink, doh) condition which effects my major joints leaving them malformed. This leads to pain and also hilarity, I look like a Godzilla penguin when I walk. The aim of this blog is to log whatever happens in my gap year.

Yeah I was meant to be getting hip replacements 15th of last month. According to plan this did not go. My bone betrayed me and decided to lack the density required for a hip replacement. So I got butchered up and put in intensive care due to a reaction to local anaesthetic, for absolutely bugger all. Damn. I am currently recovering from this in an impatient manner. I had to spend results day in hospital GREAT STUFF. Luckilly that went well. I got an A* in Maths and psychology and an A in physics and chemistry. Therefore I fulfilled my offer for Durham University, St Marys College to study Physics MPhys, yes I'm an Oxford reject.

My gap year was meant to be for recovery from the hip replacement, hmmm not much to do now is there? Yay £9000 fees and a year of probable boredom for nowt. So super smashing fantastic.
